Half-Day Workshop for Small Businesses
Small businesses face a variety of challenges every day. Rarely do you have the time (or energy) to consider how to improve your Internet footprint, including being ready to serve prospective and current customers who are looking you up on their smartphones and tablets.
This workshop, being put on in collaboration with Google, the City of Vancouver and Webfor, will help you improve the information that shows up on Google search and Google maps about your business as well as set up a free website if you so desire.
We are offering this half-day workshop on Tuesday, May 3, and we’ll have plenty of Google and digital marketing experts on hand provide attendees one-on-one guidance.
At this workshop you will:
- Verify ownership of your Google+ business page.
- Add location info, description, and hours of operation
- Add photos to enhance your listing (if you supply them)
- Sign up for Google Search Console & Implement
- We’ll review Google’s free diagnostic tools improve your listing and visibility
- Get a one-year free website and domain name from Google if you don’t already have one.
- Have an open Q&A session to get your questions answered.

According to research conducted by Google and research company Ipsos MediaCT, consumers are 38% more likely to visit and 29% more likely to consider purchasing from businesses with more complete listings.

The City of Vancouver and Webfor, a local digital marketing agency delivering enterprise-level SEO, Website Design and Social Media expertise to small- and medium-size businesses.
Items to note:
- This is a hands-on workshop, so please bring a laptop or tablet computer.
- Interpretation is available upon request.
- Parking at the library is limited to 2 hours on weekdays before 6pm. Longer term parking is available at the City Center Parking garage located one block south of the library at 703 Broadway Street.
12:30 PM – Registration and refreshments
1:00 PM – Introduction –
An introduction to search engine optimization (SEO) that will provide you with a solid foundation for understanding different factors that affect your online performance, as well as what you can do about it.
1:30 pm – Free Google Website Setup (If you have a website already we will help you make sure your Google analytics is set up properly) –
In partnership with Google you can get a free domain name and website for a year. During this session we will walk you step by step to help you set up this free website.
2:15 pm – Google Search Console –
An introduction and tour of GSC (formerly called Google Webmaster Tools) with a “hands on” workshop for attendees. By the end of the workshop, all attendees should have their own account with their website added, and be familiarized with the layout and functionality.
3:00 PM – Break
3:15 PM – Local listing (aka, Google My Business) setup and optimization
If you want potential customers to find you locally it is imperative that you claim, verify and optimize your Google listing. During this session we will walk you through this process to help you improve your online presence.
4:00 PM – Time for questions and individual assistance
Experts on Google search and digital marketing will provide one-on-one guidance and make sure their accounts are set up properly be available to answer your questions.
