As the owner of a cleaning business, you know how crowded the cleaning industry is. Depending on your services, you could be competing with carpet cleaning services, house cleaning companies, and maid services – and that’s just residential cleaning. Commercial cleaning businesses or janitorial services for office buildings are also taking their piece of the pie.
In such a saturated marketplace, the best thing you can do is get your brand in front of as many interested eyeballs as you can. The keyword being “interested.” Printing up flyers, sending out mailers, or placing full-page print ads are certainly one way of doing that.
The issue is the word interested. Without knowing exactly which readers are interested, it’s kind of hard to know if you’re reaching the right audience. Which isn’t to say there isn’t a place for print advertising. However, if you haven’t been diversifying your marketing strategies, all the print advertising in the world isn’t going to help your business.
Although Webfor has been building websites, re-designing websites, and improving UX, SEO, and content for our clients since 2009, this page isn’t here to tell you EVERYTHING that needs to be done to show up on the front page of a Google search. We have a whole website for that.
What we hope you take away from this page is an understanding of how to take advantage of both free and pay devices that will put you in front of the people that need you.
Let’s take a quick look at a few different routes small business owners can take to increase your digital footprint and grab a bigger piece of the cleaning service SEO business pie.

GMB Listing: Here you can list your address, hours and days of business, a short description of your business, and a list of services you provide for cell phone users. Other content, such as questions and answers, Google reviews, and pictures will give potential customers a robust snapshot of your business. When a potential client searches for your name, they’ll see your GMB listing.
Facebook Business Listing: Even if you detest social media, many of your potential and existing don’t. In fact, Facebook can be an awesome vehicle for your business if you don’t have a website. You’ll need to keep it updated with quality content at least once a week. Good content will be liked or shared by customers, friends, and family and your leads will grow exponentially.
Online Advertising: Potentially the most important aspect of finding the right audience, working with Google Adwords or Facebook Ads allows you to drill down to the demographics you want. Male or female, age groups, homeowners, and when to show your ads. Through their pay per click (PPC) advertising, you can choose which search terms you’ll appear in and only pay for the leads that click through to you.
The ball is in your court at that point. Is your website up to the challenge? Will those leads fill out a form for a free estimate? Will they contact you directly with a phone call or email? Or will they be confused, lost, or frustrated. How will you close the deal?
Website: At some point, business listings will only do so much for you. Once you hit a plateau, consider getting yourself a website. While there are many options for free websites, you may not have as much control as you need without paying for the bells and whistles.
And if you’re going to pay for those bells and whistles, doesn’t it make sense to go beyond a cookie-cutter agency? As we said before, Webfor has more than a decade of experience analyzing websites, developing content, SEO strategies, and UX that Google uses to bring your website to the front page.
In fact, we’ve made it our business to know when Google changes an algorithm or offers a new feature. We then pass that information on to you and your website. When someone searches for “cleaning services in ,” where do you want to be listed?
Stay Found: On a final note, once these customers have found you, don’t let them leave. Even when print was king, it costed more to find a new client than retain an existing client. With a twice-weekly or monthly email newsletter, you’re able to do just that.
Becoming a digital marketer is a full-time job. If your business consists of just you and few employees, you may not have time to keep up on the latest Google updates or fine-tuning your PPC ads. And a website may be the furthest thing from your mind.
The cleaning business is a tough market. Not only are you competing with other local cleaning companies, but you need to deal with those national companies in the cleaning industry too. As a small business owner, the best way to grow your cleaning business is to focus on your area.
In order to grow your business, hire a few more crews, and even take the occasional vacation, you’ll have to take digital marketing seriously. As we said, many steps can be done for free or with shrewdly placed investments. Instead of taking time away from your clients, let Webfor spend our time on you.
We analyze your business, discover what the competition is doing, and make recommendations based on those findings. Already have a website? We’ll do the same thing, taking your current traffic or conversion reports and making them better. And we’ll do it for free.
